It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Greg Burda. Greg enjoyed sports but had a passion for hockey and coached hockey as well as inline hockey. He volunteered and dedicated countless hours as a board member at Northwood, serving various positions over 18 years plus being apart of the Northwood family for over 20 years. Even with his battle with cancer, Greg retained a position on board until his passing. He helped organize different events, tournaments, helped getting the rinks/lines in, bartended, and also organized our own bud, spud and steak nights just to name a few. You could always find Greg and his wife Debra on Tuesday night Bingos enjoying their dinner from the canteen and interacting with members of the community. Greg is grealty missed by the Northwood Community.

It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Kenneth Lazar. Ken volunteered for more then 40 years in various sports but mostly hockey. He was a dedicated volunteer helping, organizing and directing in the Billy Mosienko tournaments. He was always seen around northwood especially when his pal Dave Fenn was around. He along with Dave organized the AA Stars conditioning camps, which Northwood was their host site. Ken enjoyed helping around northwood any way he could, such as organizing of events, tournaments, bartending, volunteering in the canteen for track meets etc. Ken liked to be around people and always made a pit stop at northwood. He will be sadly missed.

Rest in peace Ken

It is with great sadness we announce the passing of a lifetime Northwood member, George Vanderlip. George was an amazing man who coached, volunteered and was a board member for over 30yrs at Northwood, dedicating 11 of those years as President. George loved to talk, meet new people and help them any way he could. He was always just a phone call away. He was kind, generous, helpful, thoughtful and a very dependable person. He found it important to be a part of something whether sports, various programs etc and Northwood was that place where he could help others achieve, thrive as well as enjoy them. When Northwoods name was mentioned, George Vanderlips name always followed. He was very well respected and loved by many.

Rest in Peace George

It is with great sadness to announce that we lost a very special person who was a huge impact to Northwood and it’s community. Dave Fenn was a tremendous person who took pride in volunteering his time to make Northwood what it is today. He was always there to lend his hands, his knowledge, his skills, and his time to Northwood and its employees. He made sure the hockey rinks and baseball diamonds were up to par and took much pride in doing so. He looked after everything at Northwood whether it was maintenance, hall rentals, sports, events, programs etc. If you ever stepped into Northwood you knew who he was. He was and will always be remembered as “Mr. Northwood”.

Rest In Peace Dave!
